PUBLICATION MANAGER

Job Description

To seek reliable and consistent sources of  newsworthy content for inclusion in all aspects of multimedia publishing. To manipulate and edit such content for inclusion in a variety of formats. To place content in the final proof and sign off on the final layout and content prior to shipping for printing or going live. To create original engaging and enriching editorial content for inclusion in the MEHRA Family. To engage each community to actively support the MEHRA by consistently contributing editorial content.

The Publication Manager’s roles and responsibilities can be broken down into three main components, Editing, Writing, and Community Engagement.

Editing

Acting as editor, it is the publication manager’s responsibility to source advertising content for each edition, and to carry out the final proof read before publication. They will oversee the process and be able to view the progress of the editions within their control.

The publication manager will leverage all available assets as directed by the editorial department to efficiently and accurate process submissions.

They will be expected to report on issues and status for each project for which they are responsible.

The publication manager is responsible for adhering to the production schedule of each newsletter for which they are responsible.

The publication manager will ultimately be responsibility for the overall quality of publication under their control.

Writing

Publication Managers will be expected to contribute originally written editorial content whereas to support each of their magazines to ensure both an informative and enriching experience for it’s readers.

Publication Managers may be expected to take original photographs for inclusion in the magazines.

Based on a series of guidelines and templates, the publication manager will seek to achieve a given level of content with a minimum and maximum for any one edition, include any other mandatory items such as contact information, and source other locally provided news and information.

Community Engagement

The publication manager is responsible for making connections in assigned communities for the purpose of collecting hyper-local news and information and creating/collecting and maintaining a library of “editorial” content to ensure enough content for each monthly/seasonally and static edition.

The publication manager will, at any one time, have a number of editions to produce, covering from approximately 10 to up to 25 communities per month. They will typically have 2-3 months to build up a network of local contributors before the publishing deadline of the first edition of a given. Thereafter editions will be published on a monthly basis.

Publication Managers are expected to build a network of contributors adequate to provide ideally an excess of content. Publication Managers will be responsible for obtaining consent for the use of material when necessary.

Excellent command of English
Ability to use standard Microsoft office applications
Excellent interpersonal and persuasive skills
Ability to work remotely- self starter
Ability to cope with tight timelines and a degree of stress
Minimum of 3 years of hands on journalism, preferably in a community driven organization.
Job qualifications:
Four year college degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is required
Solid writing background, as evidenced through past writing experience and research
The ability to meet demanding deadlines is a key feature of this position.

Entry-Level Web Graphic Designer

Sounds True, a multimedia publishing company specializing in spirituality and holistic living, seeks an on-site web graphic designer to support our web initiatives, including the creation of banner ads, landing pages, etc. This is a full-time, temporary assignment on site only. Interest in MEHRA Publishing products and mission is required.

Requirements

  • 1 year web graphic design experience
  • Familiarity with web site design best practices
  • Proficiency in Photoshop & Illustrator
  • Demonstrated design skills
  • Proven ability to juggle numerous projects at once
  • Friendly team player
  • Ability to work within the guidelines of MEHRA Publishing aesthetics and themes.
